Hello lovelies. Happy belated Valentine. Still in the spirit of Valentine, I have a spoken word piece I’ll like to share with you. I hope you like it.
(If you would like to see a video or hear an audio rendition of this, do like this🙋🏽)
I choose you.
I often lie on my bed and imagine what we will be like, how much we would achieve, the legends we would birth, how often we would fight, would you be annoying? Would you be weird, or dark or a dozen more possibilities that float through my head.
But however you might look or be, I want you to know that I choose you. The way Fiona chose shrek and Cinderella chose Prince Charming and the princess chose the frog, I choose you. Of all the princes in the kingdom, you would be my choice according to my fathers recommendation. I won’t need to try the glass shoes on every prince in the kingdom because you’re already my perfect fit. And even if the shoes don’t seem to fit, I would still choose you.
I would love to know you in the way that a fat kid knows all the good chocolate stores. Your flaws, insecurities, the things that make you tick, let me be the runway for the expression of yourself. Let me be your safe haven, the release to your tension.
Let me be your sunshine, illuminating the dark parts of your heart.
You will be more than a fine face or a ton of muscles, your six packs would be almost insignificant in comparison to the pack you would lead, your brain filled with packets of wisdom and there would be nothing common about your sense. But with all of your qualities and your strengths, I would also accommodate your flaws. My father has designed me to complete you so in your weakness, I will be your strength. Where you fall short, I will stand tall and I will know you and love you for all that you are and even if I am blindfolded or perhaps lose my sanity, I would still choose you.
I know it wouldn’t be a bed of roses but in your bed I will choose to lay my roses and in your arms I will choose to find my solace. We will fight and you will make me mad, my contingencies will wear you out and you will almost want to kill me sometimes, so even in the times when I’m at my worst and bear no resemblance with the woman you know you married, please remember that I choose you.
You would be more than the man of my dreams, because eyes have not seen, ears have not heard all that he has in store for me. (So he says) You would be more than the man of my dreams, because my imaginations shrink in comparison to his infinite plans that are exceedingly, abundantly above all I could ever think or dream! My mind cannot even do you justice.
Like Jacob, you would wait for me. Like Hosea, you would love me stupid. Like Samson, you would fight for me. Like Daniel, you would take the lead. Like Solomon, your wisdom would open doors and like Jesus, you would be the fullness of it all.
I hope to God to be everything and more. To be the woman he is designing me to be. To complete you in all the ways that he intended.
But with all of this, regardless of what happens, more than saying I love you, always remember – I CHOOSE YOU.
Just like he chose me, I choose you.
To love you, to serve you, to be your best friend and confidant, to annoy the life out of you, to spend forever, to stir hearts, to cause Angels to sing in delight, in rain, through storms, in sunshine.
I CHOOSE YOU.
And I’d choose you; in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality, I’d find you and I’d choose you
–The Chaos of Stars
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruits – fruits that would last – and so that whatever you ask in my name, the father would give you
